Request for Information: Hyrax/Hyku Training for Developer Cohort
The Samvera Board of Directors, in partnership with the Sustaining Hyku IMLS grant, is seeking a Request for Information from institutions, organizations, and service providers for a developer training program for Hyrax and Hyku development. Both the Samvera Board and the Hyku grant have funds earmarked for a developer training opportunity in 2025.
Statement of Purpose
Our goal for this training is to produce a cohort of developers who are confident in contributing to Hyrax and Hyku. This would require in person training to get up-to-date on the latest releases and current stack for both platforms, and understanding the processes and best practices for contributing to community code.
We expect attendees to be a cohort of six to eight developers, of mixed experience, but all familiar with Ruby on Rails concepts. Samvera would pay the training provider directly for training costs and cover catering for breakfasts and lunches, and attendee institutions would pay for travel and lodging and dinner costs.
We have expected this would take the form of 2-3 days of in-person training with peer programming and instruction, to take place in late summer or early fall of 2025. However, we know there are many forms this training could take and we would like to hear about any other format options that could help meet our goal.
Our budget is approximately $20,000 USD, including breakfasts and lunches for attendees and instructors.
To respond please submit this form by March 18th, 2025.
All submissions will be reviewed by the Samvera Board and Sustaining Hyku Steering Committee, who will select one or more submissions for follow-up with a goal of a contract for the training to take place in 2025.
