The Sustaining the Hyku Repository Platform Steering Group—a collaborative effort led by the Private Academic Library Network of Indiana (PALNI) and the Partnership for Academic Library Collaboration & Innovation (PALCI) in partnership with the Samvera Community—is excited to announce grant support for two recently defined Hyku community positions.

We are pleased to open the Call for Proposals for Samvera Virtual Connect 2025!  

The Samvera Board of Directors, in partnership with the Sustaining Hyku IMLS grant, is seeking a Request for Information from institutions, organizations, and service providers for a developer training program for Hyrax and Hyku development. Both the Samvera Board and the Hyku grant have funds earmarked for a developer training opportunity in 2025.

The Samvera Community is seeking a volunteer Hyrax Technical Lead for 2026, and we’re excited to offer mentorship and training for the role in 2025. This is an excellent opportunity for a developer to gain valuable experience in community leadership, technical decision-making, and open-source contribution, all with the support of a skilled and collaborative team.

The Partnership for Academic Library Collaboration and Innovation (PALCI) and the Private Academic Library Network of Indiana (PALNI) are proud to announce the successful transition of Hyku for Consortia from pilot phase to full production—now serving 40 libraries across four prominent partners in the Hyku Commons: PALCI, PALNI, the Boston Library Consortium (BLC), and the Virtual Library of Virginia (VIVA).

The Samvera Community is thrilled to announce that The Ohio State University Libraries has officially joined as a new Samvera Partner. University Libraries joins thirty other partner organizations in this commitment to the ongoing sustainability of the Samvera Community’s innovative open source repository solutions.

The Partnership for Academic Library Collaboration and Innovation (PALCI) and the Private Academic Library Network of Indiana (PALNI) are pleased to announce that they have been awarded a $248,600 grant for Sustaining the Hyku Repository Platform: Addressing Hyku’s Unique Community Coordination and Collaboration Challenges. 

Samvera's Annual Report for 2023 is now available from the Samvera Wiki.

The 19th International Conference on Open Repositories took place last month in Gothenburg, Sweden. There are 166 slides, posters, and other materials from OR2024 now uploaded to the OR community repository.

The Samvera Community is delighted to announce that Antleaf Ltd, a technical consultancy and development company based in the United Kingdom, has officially joined as a Samvera Partner. The full Samvera Virtual Connect 2024 Program is now available!

We are pleased to announce the full release of Hyrax 5.0.0. Hyrax v5 is the culmination of effort over the past several years by numerous members of the Samvera community to convert Hyrax to use the Valkyrie data mapper, and move away from the ActiveFedora mapper. This change will provide Hyrax and Hyku implementations the ability to choose their own persistence layer and no longer be limited to Fedora 4 or 5. 

Save the date for Samvera Virtual Connect 2024, May 7th and 8th -- the call for proposals is open now! The Community is also calling for host locations for an in person event, our next volunteer leaders for Hyrax, and nominees for a vacancy on the Samvera Board.
