Announcing a new Samvera Partner benefit: the Hyrax and Hyku Upgrade Planning Service. As institutional budgets face scrutiny, the Samvera Community is looking for ways to directly connect how financial support that sustains the community also returns concrete support to each Partner institution. Institutions have told us that upgrading to the latest versions of Hyrax and Hyku is an activity where subject expertise could provide efficiency and confidence in the planning stages. Samvera Partnership now includes dedicated technical planning support. Each year, every Partner institution can elect to receive one detailed upgrade plan for a selected Hyrax or Hyku application. This is a focused assessment with a sequenced roadmap for planning, budgeting, and beginning the upgrade process. The plan is created by Rob Kaufman in his community-funded role as Hyrax and Hyku Technical Coordinator. Ohio State University Libraries participated as a pilot for the upgrade plan process. The upgrade and migration service is a wonderful support to Samvera Partners, and we highly encourage others to take advantage of it. Rob’s analysis is worth every penny of our Partner dues.”

The recipient of the 2026 Julie Allinson Award is Nic Don Stanton-Roark, Digital Repository and Archives Manager for PALNI and the current Hyku Product Owner. The purpose of this award is to recognize an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the Samvera Community.  The award honors the late Julie Allinson, a beloved Samvera Community member who was an incredible mentor, teacher, contributor, and friend.

The next Apereo Foundation Microconference features an exciting new project in our community: Enact, a specialist practice research repository built using Hyku.

Digital repositories make local stories globally available.

The Samvera Europe 2026 Meeting will be held on Tuesday 5th May, from 2pm to 5pm, in conjunction with the CoSector Festival of Technology in Education and Research at University of London. The meeting is being kindly hosted by CoSector at Senate House, where the Festival is taking place, in conjunction with the Samvera Community. The Samvera Community is a collection of universities in North America and Europe established in 2008 to foster open discussion and engagement on the development of digital repositories, as well as creating software solutions to address curation needs. All those working with digital repositories, including repository management, collections management and presentation, software development, metadata, etc. are warmly invited.

This role provides essential technical leadership and coordination at a moment when many institutions are facing funding constraints, and reliance on Hyrax and Hyku infrastructure continues to grow.

The Samvera Community is pleased to announce Christine Peterson Consulting as its newest Samvera Service Provider Partner, strengthening the community’s collaborative network of libraries, service providers, and technologists dedicated to open source repository solutions.

The Private Academic Library Network of Indiana (PALNI) and the Partnership for Academic Library Collaboration and Innovation (PALCI) are pleased to announce a new partnership with Invest in Open Infrastructure (IOI) to strengthen the long-term sustainability of Hyku, the open-source digital repository platform. Through this project, the Hyku for Consortia team—along with key stakeholders in the Samvera Hyku Community and IOI—will support the development of a co-investment and community decision-making model designed to ensure the Hyku platform remains robust, community-driven, and financially sustainable.

Samvera Connect 2025 is now a free, online conference, October 28th - 30th

The Samvera Connect 2025 Program Committee has extended the deadline for our Call for Proposals for presentations, panels, lightning talks, and posters to July 28th. This year’s conference will be held in person from October 20–23, 2025, in Mexico City.
